{people of the subway: no.1}

NYC is a place overflowing with “colorful” people. Every day, I am mesmerized by at least one individual; whether it be by their choice in wardrobe, their eccentric personality or what he/she deems as appropriate behavior on the subway  (i.e.: yesterday morning, when a 20-something year old was shaving his beard on the subway). I would love to stop and talk to them – these mesmerizing NYC residents - to hear their stories, to learn their dreams and to simply ask why. Why do you think a subway seat is a suitable location for shaving? Why are you not wearing pants in a very public place? Why are you eleven years old and talking to your friends about how you can’t wait to go on a date tonight? Why are you eating that gross looking green pudding? Just why?
While I may never know the answer to many of my “NYC people” questions, I do like that I have the opportunity to inconspicuously document these characters by way of my iPhone. Not only does it give me something amusing to do while trapped on a crowded subway, but it also allows my imagination to run wild – as weird as that sounds. It’s so entertaingly easy to look at those around me and create stories about them. While I’m sure that doing this is considered entirely judgmental, what else are you going to do when you are surrounded by mesmerizing individuals on a daily basis?

This is why I am going to start sharing “PEOPLE OF THE SUBWAY” photos on our little blog… because sometimes it’s fascinating to catch a glimpse into the lives of a NYC resident. Even if it’s just through a simple photo and leaves you asking “why?”...

This is what happens when the subway doors are slamming closed on you & you get left
on the platform & your friends ride away with you.

And last, but CERTAINLY not least, a photo by the famous Timothy Edward Willis!
